! We'd love to hear from you.
Here are just a couple of short messages from the current committee to explain what they do here at Weevil:
President
I have really enjoyed my role as president, it has suited me as my jobs aren't as heavy in term time meaning I still have time to write or edit articles or go to other societies.
Your main role is getting funding, we have a couple of connections already with companies (I'll introduce you to them) but if these don't hold up you usually end up going through a careers book and spamming companies for an evening (I do this in the holidays so I am not spending a term time evening doing this - though it is great procrastination). Eventually you get a company who returns your email and you get monies! Another way is to print out these emails and wonder around town handing them out to shops =)
The other role is organising the committee; you will need to have committee meetings - we usually have them 30mins before the editing session. Make sure your committee is happy and if anyone has any great ideas get people to follow them up! As a young society, Weevil has so much potential to shape and grow and nothing to hold you back so any idea is usually a good idea!
Most of the skills a president needs I have gained on the way, the one skill I think is important is to be able to let your committee do their job. You aren't here to run the show and take over - you'll completely kill you time if you do! Just make sure people are able to do their jobs and Weevil can keep running!
Publicity/Distribution
Responsibilities include organising a printing schedule and planning where to distribute the magazines to best reach our audience (considering a suitable balance of colleges and lecture theatres). You'll also need to think of ways to maximise Weevil publicity and ideas to increase interest, contributor numbers and readers; for example recently Weevil had a stand at the very popular careers service 'Careers in the Media Event' and regular facebook and twitter updates keep our online followers posted about meetings and updates. Being the publicity/distribution manager is a great way to get involved and learn more about how the magazine operates - don't worry if you have little or no magazine/writing experience, enthusiasm and willingness to get involved is all you need.
Junior Treasurer
As Junior Treasurer of Weevil, I make sure that we have enough money each term to be able to print the magazine. This involves working with the President to persuade sponsors to give us money! I attend committee meetings and also dabble in writing, editing and illustrating the magazine.

If you're not sure you want to write, but still want to participate, come along to our next meetup:
Where: Emmanuel College, Camden House Meeting Room, meet at porters' lodge.
When: Saturday 16th February, 2pm-3pm.
There will be article-reading and -editing, as well as some illustration brainstorming. Come along if you're keen to edit, interested in illustrating, or would simply like a diversion on a Saturday afternoon. There will be cake.
Thinking of helping run Weevil next year? Then come along at 1:30pm to meet the committee for an informal chat on committee roles and other ways you could contribute.
Hoping to see many of you there - and happy Weevilling!

Weevil has elected its new committee at the Annual General Meeting, which took place yesterday. Thanks to everyone who showed up to vote.
Our new Editor-in-Chief is the decidedly noncaprine prodigy Joni Coleman, who has made himself a name by being one of our longest standing contributors and vivid promoter of the 'angry editor' technique.
Writer/Illustrator Julia Roberts (!) will be chasing lazy committee members in her new role as the secretary, while Jue Wang is set to navigate our accounts through the dangerous waters of finance. Distribution will continue to be handled by our very able Zoe Wyatt (who, a true mathmo, has spelled the double T in her surname with a pi symbol in her manifesto), and our website is relieved to find itself once again in the hands of our IT veteran Jen Berry.
Nominations were re-opened for President and Publicity Officer, due to lack of nominees. Which means that you have a second chance to run for these awesome positions! If you are interested and want to learn more, please ask still-president Daniel via his contact form.
